TBI EFI System for Triumph and MG 4, 6, and 8 Cylinder Engines





In collaboration with www.sidedrafttbi.com, CustomEFIS now sells a throttle body fuel injection system for British vehicles using side-draft carburetors. My portion of the kit contains all the items listed below. All parts are new except the injectors and ECM which are reconditioned. The adjustable fuel pressure regulator is my own custom design and is made on a CNC lathe and milling machine. Its the only remote TBI regulator on the market and uses GM internals. The distributor shown in the photo is not included. This is a customer's distributor that I converted for a $50 fee. The distributor has been converted to electronic ignition with a custom CNC milled conversion plate and new steel shaft extension to install electronic components for complete ECM control of all timing functions. Included Items

The Triumph and MG 6 and 4 Cylinder TBI kits include:

1) CNC milled distributor electronic ignition conversion parts;

2) Two reconditioned GM TBI fuel injectors;

3) New CNC fabricated adjustable fuel pressure regulator with pressure gauge;

4) All new coolant, MAP, and O2 sensors (exhaust bung included);

5) A reconditioned GM ECM (engine control module);

6) A new custom built wiring harness;

7) A high quality frame mounted EFI fuel pump with mounting bracket and fittings;

8) High pressure (250 PSI working pressure) 3/8" Push Loc fuel line for the high pressure fuel supply line from pump to regulator and injectors (please do not use low pressure automotive type fuel line for the fuel supply system as it is not rated for the pressure produced by the included pump);

9) A custom flash calibration chip will be included and programmed for the injectors and engine size for a stock engine. Further tuning on non-stock engines is included as part of the optional flash chip programmer below.

OPTIONS:



OPTION A) An optional flash chip programmer tuning package allows the customer to re-calibrate the calibration chip at his location. The package includes a flash chip programmer, an ALDL cable, and a tuning guide. The included flash chip programmer device works off a USB port and does not need a separate 120V power adapter like most programmers, so you can use it in the car with a laptop if desired. You will use the programmer to reprogram the flash chip with new calibration files. You can learn to re-calibrate the system yourself with the included tuning guide or I can send you calibration files via email. This allows the customer and I to tune the system together. The flash chip programmer tuning package option is $210. For non-stock engines that need tuning after installation, I charge $50 an hour if you want me to tune the system for you. I can typically do two calibration chips per hour. An ALDL cable that converts a laptop computer (laptop computer furnished by the customer) into a GM ECM scantool is also included with this option. This cable is a 9 pin serial model and will not work with newer USB only laptops without a USB to 9 pin adapter cable which can be found at most computer stores or Walmart. A scantool displays engine sensor information and allows you to diagnose and tune your GM EFI system.


OPTION B) Another tuning option is the real time tuning option. This is a device called an emulator. The emulator plugs into the ECM calibration chip slot and allows you to change the calibration data with a laptop while driving the vehicle. This is the ultimate in tuning capability. Adjusting idle and the accelerator pump shot is a breeze with this device and you can play with spark timing as you drive to feel the effects. Of course I tune all my systems if you don't want to learn to tune the system yourself with my guidance but this device really puts GM EFI on par with other systems costing $1000s more. The real time programming option is $350 and contains a real time chip emulator, a tuning guide, and an ALDL cable. See Option A for more information on the tuning guide and cable.

The software that works with the included ALDL cable is available on the internet and is free unless you want to make a $30 donation to the author for his efforts. I'll check your system out after installation (if necessary) with this program. I'll provide a link to the software when we are ready to tune the system.

My kits do not include the following:

1) spark plug wires or plugs;
2) distributor;
3) low pressure 5/16" return line;

I provide all the installation help my customers need by E-mail or telephone. My website has a universal installation guide that can also be consulted for troubleshooting.

It is recommended that the customer use high pressure fuel line between the pump outlet and the regulator as well as the feed lines to the injector inserts. I include this type fuel line in the kit. Lower quality SAE fuel line typically found at auto parts stores can be used on the return side of the regulator as well as the inlet side of the fuel pump.

The distributor is to be provided by the customer. This kit contains parts that convert the distributor to electronic ignition but only for use with this kit. The distributor will require that some metal tabs be ground off and two holes drilled and tapped with 4mm x 0.7 threads. I will do the distributor modifications for $50 if you send the distributor to me.
